Effective financial counselling and resource referral can enhance patients’ access to medication and compliance

In today’s healthcare environment, out-of-pocket financial stress is often one of the most important factors affecting patient compliance and outcomes.

Patient Support Programs (PSPs)

Through PatientsForce’s Patient Support Programs (PSPs), Project Health Teachers not only provide disease, medication education and psychological support, but also provide appropriate financial advice and resource referrals in the case management of the entire patient journey to ensure that patients have access to medication and adherence to medication for the economically disadvantaged patients and their families.

In the PSP performed by PatientsForce, the following case studies are provided:

Insurance trial calculation service

In the cancer consultation project, the counselor of PatientsForce shared that there was a patient who was diagnosed with breast cancer just after being immersed in the joy of pregnancy, and was just about to learn how to be a pregnant woman and how to take care of the upcoming newborn, but was forced to face more urgent cancer treatment and medical burden. To provide patients with peace of mind during pregnancy and to wait for delivery.

Provide care resources

Nearly 60% of the patients are from economically disadvantaged families, through the value-added care program in cooperation with pharmaceutical companies, although the patient’s medication is covered by health insurance, in order to further improve the patient’s compliance with the doctor’s instructions, the health teacher assists in applying for a variety of resource support according to the patient’s needs, including monthly transportation and transportation services, arranging home injections for patients, and even regular rehabilitation or physical therapy. All of them are free of charge so that patients can have better course of care.

Referrals to financial resources

A family support network is also indispensable, and PatientsForce’s health care teachers have served a rare patient with a disability certificate, who is about 5-6 years old and completely unable to take care of himself, and whose father is placed in a hospice center due to total paralysis, with only his mother as the primary caregiver. During several service follow-ups, Professor Wei learned that the patient’s mother was facing a huge amount of surgery costs due to a herniated thoracic disc, and she was unable to have a stable financial income because of taking care of the patient.

PatientsForce’s long-standing patient-centered approach to understanding patients’ needs and helping them and their families to reduce financial stress and continue receiving medication through effective financial communication and resource referral is a testament to PatientsForce’s long-standing patient-centered approach to ensuring that every patient we serve can receive better medical care and treatment with financial stability.
